Tents from Philmont are available for $40 each and we decided they would be the best deal for new troop tents.
The new whisperlite stoves worked admirably at Philmont, and some of the older scouts are now experts in their use, having used them over and over and over.

Scoutmaster’s Summer Report:
The troop 19 summer started with SPL Sam B., Chris, and Doug heading to Wolfeboro to be on staff. Sam G. and Zander traveled to Camp Lindblad in the Santa Cruz mountains for Brownsea leadership training, and then the troop met at Wolfeboro for the first week of summer camp. Many merit badges were earned by the troop, and Liam, Mark and Joey hiked up to sourdough for an overnight stay under the stars. At the end of July, Sam B., Chris, and Doug had to cut their staff work short because Troop 19 was off to Philmont New Mexico for a 60 mile, 2 week trek. The trek ranged in altitude from 7,000 feet at the base camp to over 12,000 feet to sleep on the top of Mt. Phillips in a typical Philmont thunder storm. The group learned outdoor skills and practiced ‘leave no trace’ camping using newly learned techniques such as the ‘human sump’ meal cleanup method. It was an adventure packed two weeks which came to an end as we scaled the tooth of time before a lightning storm hit, and helped another scout who broke his ankle hurrying down the rocky crag.
